Messianic EthicsJesus' Proclamation of the Kingdom of God and the Church in Response by Ben Wiebe |
|
Ben Wiebe analyzes the century-long quest for the relation between the kingdom of God and Jesus' ethics.
Does the kingdom come by human ethical action or by God's initiative? Is the kingdom now or later? Is Jesus' eschatology an embarrassment, to be changed into awareness of eternity, existence or a mystic Jesus? Is Jesus only a teacher of individuals?
Wiebe shows Jesus to be the messianic leader who proclaims the advent of the kingdom, calls disciples, eats with sinners and forgives them, heals the sick, and anticipates a destiny of suffering and death.
